Rules for Safe Venting of Gas Appliances. Proper gas venting should
perform the following functions to insure safe and dependable operation of the appliance.

1. Safely vent all of the hot combustion gasses to the outside atmosphere.

2. Prevent overheating of nearby walls or framing.

3. Control Condensation of water vapor present in combustion gasses.

4. Provide fast priming of the unit.

The amount of heat the vent gasses lose as they flow determines how much condensation will occur and how strong the draft will be. To control the heat losses, proper selection of venting materials is of vital importance.
